The builder will need detailed measurements of the appliances you pick out in order to start the construction of your cabinets. Media cabinets will also need TV hole size measurements. Other components may also need to be measured to assure they fit in standard cabinet layouts. Once you have decided on appliances it's time to figure out were everything will go. Stove, cook top, refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, and microwave placement should be decided by you and your builder together.
What type of material should I use? Common wood types include; Poplar (paint grade), Oak, Maple, and Alder. These woods are the popular choice because they produce great results and are easy to finish. Less common wood types are Hickory, Cherry, Walnut, Mahogany, and Pecan. These woods are less common due to the high cost, and they are harder to finish properly. When finished properly the less common woods can produce magnificent results.
